Friends,
It is with deep regret and much sadness that I address you all on what is undoubtedly an emotional occasion.
Not even twelve months ago The Half Time Pies formed full of ambition, drive and most importantly, full of shit. We were on the verge of something special. In JD we had a highly talented musician and singer, whilst me and Oli were both human beings who possessed musical instruments. The potential was there for all to see.
As the year progressed and Duffield decided to assert more influence with Ricky and The Pigeons, before ultimately joining them, it was clear his heart was no longer in it. And with just about JD the beholder of just about all our music talent his heart elsewhere it was evident that we couldn't be as active as we'd have liked.
Time progressed though and we were all doing our own things; JD with his traitor band, Oli with World of Warcraft and me with my half-arsed animé drawings. As a band though, we were happy and I could sense a renaissance of The Half-Time Pies was on the cards. We spent the summer apart in our respective homelands, dreaming dreams of Half-Time heroics in second year. We'd have a new house, new material, new horizons. Greatness was within our grasps once more.
Today however we were rocked by the news that JD will no longer be in Bath next year – a shock to the Half-Time system. And I don't know if any of you follow the railway system but First Great Western's prices are an absolute buckin' rip-off. Half-Time Pies just don't mean as much as a 30 quid ticket for a return ticket from Torbay to Bath.
So yes, inevitably it is with deep regret that I inform you all of the end of The Half-Time Pies. I know our songs were yet to be released and we were holding off on concerts until we'd master our art. but I can assure you, we were destined for something special. And I don't want to point any fingers but if JD hadn't left Bath...
We will our have our own individual projects, what you will see of them is only God's guess. And JD, will have Ricky And The Pigeons. I may have referred to them as the 'traitor band' earlier, but they still have our best wishes – and it's Ricky's birthday today, so be nice.
Winston Churchill famously said: “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” I hope that these remarks will linger in the hearts of Half-Time Pies everywhere. The Half-Time Pies will be back, albeit in different guises.
Finally, we would like to thank the fans as without you none of this would've been possible. In the light of day we'll look back on what could've been and what might've been, but we can only thank you for giving us the opportunity to succeed.
Peace, love, happiness and joy,
Phil
*It is anticipated that the documentary 'Half-Time Hiatus' will appear on Bravo some Sunday night, depicting the downfall of the Pies.
